Procession is Back!

If you aren’t from Olympia or haven’t experienced Procession you truly are missing out.  Procession of the Species Celebration, or Procession as most Olympians call it, is an Earth Day celebration of the arts.

Procession of the Species

Created by the community for the community the Procession of the Species Celebration is a joyous, artistic pageant, embracing the languages of art, music and dance to inspire learning, appreciation and protection of the natural world. The intent of the Procession is to elevate the dignity of the human spirit by enhancing the cultural exchange that we have with each other and with the natural world… and to do that through imagination, creation, and sharing.

After several years, and a small procession last year, the full procession is back this year.  Most years it includes new endangered or highlighted nature based causes, without words.  This year our son is working on axolotl float and costumes.  In years past there has been a large presence of bees, shellfish, and water creatures, as well as many other endangered species.  When our youngest was in preschool we were lions with the school.  It is just as fun to participate in as it is to watch and celebrate our beautiful world and our connection to it.

To find out more about the Procession of the Species check out their web site, or visit the Armory creative campus, on the corner of Legion and Eastside.
