Learning, Inspiration and Outings

Six nights and five full days dedicated to an artform you love. Could it get better?

A trip to the world famous Shipwreck Beads. A day trip to the Museum of Glass in Tacoma. Could this get any more indulgent?

We asked Teresa, "What makes the Olympia Bead Retreat different and special?"

"In nearly 20 years as an educator, I’ve found that the magic lies in discovering talents that come from inside you. Tease out your talent, live with it, glimpse its possibilities, and begin a path of exploration that you can take anywhere you like. Nurture your style, whether minimalist/conceptual or abundantly decadent.

Pie-in-the-sky flights of fancy paired with down-to-earth practicality? Yes. I provide down-to-earth, personal instruction centered around sculptural bead-weaving techniques, with in-person demos, fully illustrated step-by-step handouts, and personal guidance. Replicate a piece I’ve done, see another as a jumping-off point; bring home a finished piece or a collection of “starts”. The intentionally small scale of this Retreat gives you this flexibility.

Spending uninterrupted time with kindred spirits who believe in you is the best gift you can give your creative self. All the more fun in an 1880s mansion with a jar of homemade cookies and a garden full of fresh veggies nearby!"

B&B Experience and Local Dining

The retreat will be held at the Swantown Inn Bed & Breakfast. Room selection will be on a first come first served basis. So the earlier you book the more choice you will have, however regardless of the room you stay in you will be getting an experience that will add to the retreat expereince.

All retreat attendess will be pampered, with daily gourmet breakfasts and lunches. On day three you will even get a lovely chair massage from one of our Massage Therapists.

There will be an informal wine tasting on the first evening and on the last evening another as a farewell and celebration of all you have achieved during the week.

Each evening you will be treated to one of Olympia's fabulous resturants. From seafood through to steaks, and northwest to french cuisine. Your palate will be spoiled!

From Teresa's Biography page on her studio web site;

"Teresa Sullivan is an award-winning artist who has exhibited her work nationally since 1995 and internationally since 2008. Her artwork has been featured in several books, most recently "Suzanne Golden Presents: Interviews with 36 Artists Who Innovate with Beads" and is found in private collections nationally. Selected jewelry pieces can be purchased at Racine Art Museum Store, Racine, WI."

After a small but successful 2013 Olympia Bead As in its first year, Teresa is intentionally limiting enrollment to 7 participants, to keep this experience special for all.

"Just got back from a wonderful time at the Olympia Bead Retreat. I've learned a lot, have many samples. Now I need to practice and explore further. Teresa is a wonderful teacher, very encouraging and patient. Her handouts are great. It was fun to see the many pieces that she has made. Very relaxing week. Swantown Inn great!"

- Janis Loehr, Webster, NY

"What an incredible week in Olympia! Thanks so much, Teresa, for sharing your art with us. I loved the slide shows, philosophical discussions, and all of the wonderful techniques you taught us. I am honored to have spend time with you and the other creative and talented artists at the retreat!"
