Grandfather makes Swantown Inn his home.
Friday, December 9th, 2011We have a new member of our family here at the Swantown Inn. Grandfather. As I sit here typing this entry he is chiming the fact that it is six o’clock. Yes grandfather is a grandfather clock, given to us by our dear friends Joanne and Jerry Lechner, of the Eagles Nest Inn on Whidbey Island.
Joanne and Jerry acquired the clock around 1975 from an antique store in Orange County California. It was made by the Gustav Becker Clock Company. Described as a “Bim Bam” Coffin Clock.
The left weight powers the striker for the chime and the right weight powers the 7 day mechanism. You can use brasso to clean them, and they gather fingerprints very easily!
In setting up this clock I had to make certain it was level front to back and side to side which it now is. I tis also in a corner away from foot traffic, which can halt the mechanism.
I am honored to be given such a beautiful piece and although it will live at the B&B with us, if we ever move it joins us on that move!
